Despite security challenges and fraud growth the National Cryptocurrency Association reports that customers across America own digital assets now at 20% according to 2025 *State of Crypto Holders Report*.
In January and February 2025 the National Cryptocurrency Association and The Harris Poll surveyed 10,000 crypto holders from 54,000 American participants with final results. It is the largest research project to study U.S. crypto users.
Crypto Ownership Reaches New High
Research shows people use digital money as more than a short-term investment strategy. About 40% of those polled bought goods and products using cryptocurrency while a two-thirds majority found it brought them positive benefits in daily life.
Cryptocurrency fans in the South make up 40% of all American holders and twice as many holders as the Midwest (17%) and Northeast (18%). The people from Western states make up 26% of the total crypto holders.
People from different professions across the country are now investing in crypto assets. Even though the technology field makes up 14% of token owners there are more workers operating in construction who make up 12% of holders and only 7% of finance professionals are involved with digital assets.
Survey Shows Positive Crypto Impact
According to the report, the worldwide recognition of crypto results mainly from its simple entry requirements. Various platforms enable users to start buying digital assets for small amounts making this market attractive to multiple groups.
Despite its current popularity and growth the crypto sector keeps posing significant threats to its users. The total amount of crypto fraud victims in the U.S. reached $5.6 billion during 2023 then doubled to $11.2 billion according to preliminary data this year.
The NCA which promotes digital asset education works to help people enter the crypto market safely and improve participation in the economy. According to the NCA, crypto has started appearing in everyday life but more oversight and public understanding will be needed as it expands.
